Seo Tip: Choosing The Right Keyword To Profit

by amauser on November 22, 2008

On the Internet, especially the search engines, it is all about keywords. Majority of the users type in a keyword in the search engines to find solutions to their problems or for research. It might be long tail or short tail keywords but in the end of the day, it is the keywords that get the users to the websites. Not only that, keywords also shows the mindset of the particular individual that types it in into the search boxes.

For example, if a user is types in a keyword “hydroxycut” into Google, he or she might doing a research on that product, maybe wants to make a purchase or maybe just want to see what is the fuss all about because he friends keep talking about it. In the other hand, if a person types in “buy hydroxycut online”, it can be concluded that the person have the mindset of a buyer. He or she is looking for a place to buy hydroxycut online.

With that said, choosing the right keyword before you write your article and develop your webpage is really crucial is you were to successfully monetize that webpage. Lets start with choosing the keyword to optimized based on supply and demand. You want to choose a keyword that you are confident to win. At this moment, hardcore broad keywords like weight loss have a supply of over 84 million. It would be really crazy super task to handle. It is better for you to drill down deeper from that main keyword like “weight loss help” or “weight loss plan” which has over 1 million supplies. It is a much easier keyword to win at. Not only that, it is easier for you to predict what is your visitor’s problem when they enter your site and then you can present them with the right solution and monetize from there.

I generally would go for long tail keywords that have 3 words and supply of five hundred thousand to a million. I find that it is so much more targeted and I can develop the right content and provide the right solution for the visitors. Conversions are much higher if I do that way. It is also very important for you to assess the demand of a particular keyword. You can use many keyword research tools out there. My personal favorite is the Google Adwords keyword tool. Even though you might have found a keyword with low competition. if there is no demand, there is no point for you to create content for it. There is just not enough volume for you to monetize and it is a waste of your time and opportunity cost. I would go for keywords that have at least 500 to 1000 searches.

In conclusion, I found that creating many content optimizing for long tail keywords is far better than trying ridiculously hard to win with a mega keyword is a mega supply. If by chance you get top position for a keyword that has very high supply and demand, it is a bonus. Focus your attention on well-targeted reasonable demand and supply long tail keywords.
